Idea HOUSE OF HORROR CRAMMED WITH 119 DOGS

When rescuers saved this three-year-old Scottish terrier from the small, stench-filled house where he had been kept along with more than 100 others, he was in a sorry state.

Before: This Scottish terrier, who has been named Montgomery, was in a sorry state when he was rescued from a squalid house filled with more than 100 dogs

But after just two days of love and care - and a good wash and brush - he looks like a completely different dog, with a new name to match: Montgomery.

After: With a bit of grooming, three-year-old Montgomery brushes up into a neat and sleek dog with a 'cute little grin'

Little Monty was one of 118 malnourished dogs found living in two feet of faeces, urine and rubbish in a squalid house in Medina County, Ohio after neighbours reported ceaseless barking and foul odours coming from the alleged illicit breeding facility.

Exclamation Its owners, Glenda Curtis, 54 and her daughter Danielle Tschappat, 27, each now face 20 charges of animal cruelty and failing to give them food and water - second-degree misdemeanours which could result in a jail term.
Mary Jo Johnson, acting humane officer for the Medina County Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals, told WKYC.com: 'All you saw were dogs. Dogs on the counter-tops. Dogs on top of cabinets. Faeces, garbage about 24 inches deep on the first level.'

The dogs, including Monty, are now being cared for at the Medina County SPCA rescue centre.
Its executive director, Stephanie Moore, said: 'Monty's a cute little guy and he gives you this funny little grin - he really has a great personality.'

But little Monty, like all the animals, suffered from his time in the house - Ms Moore said he was believed to be responsible for killing of one of the five dogs found dead at the scene, after they fought.
She said: 'But these things happen when you have more than 100 dogs together in a house!'
She added: 'We've had no problems with him here. We take him outside but I do not think he has ever really been outside in his entire life, he gets really scared.'
Rescuers found neither water bowls nor dog food in the house, and said up to ten animals were kept in one cage. They had been fed on uncooked rice and raw kale, rescuers said.
Ms Moore described it as 'classic animal hoarding' and told cleveland.com she was treating it like a 'natural disaster'.

She said: 'This is the single worst environment I have ever seen. We literally had to climb onto a layer of faeces, urine, and garbage to get inside the house. It was at least two-feet high.'
Mrs Johnson said the mother and daughter were allegedly trying to make money by breeding popular 'designer' dogs - but it got out of hand.
'I want to say it's close to being a puppy mill. But in the same token, I understand how they got overwhelmed,' she said.
Among the dogs were Yorkshire terriers, West Highland terriers, schnauzers and poodles. Since they were rescued on Friday and Saturday, five more puppies have been born, bringing the total rescued to 124.

Mrs Johnson told NewsChannel5: 'It's the worst thing I've ever seen and I was amazed at once we got inside how many animals were in there.'
An army of local volunteers is now working to clean, feed and look after the dogs at the overwhelmed SPCA centre where they being kept.
Ms Moore hopes to put some of the adult dogs up for adoption by Thursday, but most will need to be vaccinated, spayed and neutered - at a cost of $200 each - before they can be rehomed.
The centre has set up an emergency care fund to help cover the cost of caring for the dogs.
Ms Moore told wkvc.com: 'They really are friendly animals, all of them. They like to be around people. We won't have any trouble finding homes for them.'
